Video: who we are (from 2018 while at the MRC-LMB, Cambridge, UK)
The St. Jude campus is a truly unique research environment, encompassing state-of-the-art HPC facilities, world-leading oncology basic research, outstanding Shared Resources and Core Facilities and a robust in-house translational pipeline. The Department of Structural Biology is building the world’s most comprehensive research center for defining molecular structures to understand health and disease at the molecular level. The Technology Core Centers within the Structural Biology Department (Cryo-EM and Tomography, X-ray, NMR, Single Molecule, Proteomics and Metabolomics, and Protein Technologies) are generating new structural information that will enable the design of new medicines, diagnostics, and materials to advance the Mission of St. Jude.
There is a vibrant Computational Biology community at St. Jude, with opportunities to interact with researchers in the Biostatistics and Computational Biology Departments, and tremendous support from the Center for Applied Bioinformatics. Consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the U.S. in Pediatric Cancer, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, and home to the Pediatric Cancer Genome Project.

We are always looking for talented individuals who are motivated to explore the intersection between data science and biology in a multidisciplinary and diverse working environment. The Babu Group strives to build and maintain a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion. We strongly feel these values directly contribute to the dynamic and intellectually stimulating scientific environment we can provide.
Prospective PhD students
Students may pursue a PhD from the St. Jude Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, or come from affiliated institutions to complete laboratory rotations, training placements or thesis work with leading faculty across the institution.
International graduate students come from institutions outside of the U.S. and perform their research at St. Jude under the guidance of a St. Jude faculty mentor. Degrees are granted by the scholar’s home institution. Students must have already been formally accepted into a program and must adhere to the regulations and requirements of that program.

Prospective Post-Doc applicants
Doctoral scientists with advanced knowledge in computational biology, and/or experimental biology (genetics, molecular biology and genomics of yeast or biophysical techniques to study disordered proteins) should contact Madan by email. Potential candidates who are interested in joining us should be competitive to apply for external fellowships and sources of funding such as EMBO Long-Term Fellowship, Marie-Curie Fellowship or HFSP Fellowship.
